Are you ready to dance, feast, and win prizes this coming Saturday night, March 10th?

Every year, as spring approaches, La Scuola hosts a dinner, dance, and raffle to raise funds for our non-profit organization and to give our students an opportunity to socialize with friends and with members of the Italian-American community. Everyone is invited and we thank members of the Italian-American clubs who regularly attend the event for making it a great success.

This year, the first prize in the raffle is a $1,000 travel voucher! There are lots of other prizes, and fewer ticket buyers than in most raffles you may have tried, so your chances of winning are better than you might expect. If you never win raffles, then this is the one to try and change your luck! You can also buy raffle tickets at the event.

The last day to buy tickets for the dinner and dance held at the Peninsula Italian American Social Club, 100 B Street, San Mateo, CA, is March 3rd. It's approaching quickly!

Turn in your copy of the textbook Studio Italiano for Cash!

Dear student or friend of La Scuola,

For some years Scuola di Lingua e Cultura Italiana has used the book Studio Italiano, by Maria Rita Francia Biasin, as a textbook for beginning and intermediate classes. The first edition of that book, which most of our students use, is now out of print. A new edition is available, but we don't want to mix students using different editions of the book in the same class.

So, as a temporary solution, we are asking ex-students, advanced students, or anyone who has a copy of Studio Italiano who no longer wants the book to sell us their copy. If you would like to receive $20 for your old edition of Studio Italiano, bring it to the school on Saturday between 10:30am and 12:30pm, during the school year.

You can also drop the book off at the office of Leo Pagani, the school administrator to receive the $20. The location, open during business hours, Monday through Friday, is 90 17th Ave, San Mateo, 94402. You can call for information at (650) 574-3089.

Alternatively, you can mail the book to the office at 90 17th Ave, San Mateo, 94402 and we will send you an additional $5 for postage, for a total of $25.

La Scuola would also graciously accept a donation of the book, if you prefer. Just mention the donation when you return the book.

Scuola di Lingua e Cultura Italiana begins spring 2012 Italian classes on Saturday morning, January 21st, at 10:00AM. Register at http://www.italianclasses.com/register.htm today!

If you mail-in your registration by January 6th, or register and pay online by credit card or PayPal at http://www.italianclasses.com/register.htm you can save $15 per person and the school will be better able to plan for students arriving at the first day of classes on January 21st.

After January 6th, you can still register without the discount by mail, online, or in person as early as 20 minutes before class on Saturday morning, September 21st, at the South San Francisco Adult School campus located at 825 Southwood Drive, South San Francisco.

Scuola di Lingua e Cultura Italiana begins the fall 2011 schedule of Italian classes on Saturday morning, September 10, at 10:00AM, and we've expanded our classes! New this semester is an Intermediate Conversation class to compliment our Intermediate level 1 and level 2 classes, and our Advanced Conversation and Advanced Literature classes.

Invitation to Friends: Concert of the Aurora Mandolin Ensemble

Students and friends of Scuola di Lingua e Cultura Italiana are invited to hear the Aurora Mandolin Ensemble play at 11:30am, on Saturday, December 4, in the school auditorium.

This is a special cultural event offered to us by this Bay Area group that has roots going back to the 1920's. The Aurora Mandolin Ensemble is a group of ten musicians who are part of the Aurora Mandolin Orchestra ( http://www.auroramandolin.com/ ).

The concert is expected to be 45 minutes in length and will feature an appearance by Bay Area opera singer Maria Fassio Pignati. Admission to this La Scuola cultural event is free, and students, friends of the school, and their friends are invited.

We hope to see you on December 4th!
